The Official Hot 97/ BET Caribana 2011 Party is celebrating its 11th anniversary this year in style. On Sunday, July 31st more than 20 of North America’s top Hip Hop, R & B, Soca, Calypso and Reggae DJs and artists are set to perform the hottest tracks in urban music today. This 2011 Caribana event is so popular, the entire Guvernment Nightclub complex is devoted to it. The Kool Haus (normally considered a separate venue), the Orange Room and of course the spacious rooftop lounge Sky Bar, will all be dedicated to the 2011 Hot 97 / BET incredible anniversary event.

Last year's pairing of BET and Hot 97 was a huge success, attracting a full capacity crowd of over 5,000 people and featured guests such as Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Red Cafe, Dru and Lil X . Artists set to play this Sunday Caribana event include DJ Enuff, iLL Kidz, Fire Kid Steenie, DJ Clymaxxx, with HUGE Stars set to return. You've been invited to be a part of a night dedicated to trying to make a difference in the lives of children who have been through, and are living through,the most courageous battles of their lives.

Most of us cannot even imagine what it would be like to endure the pain and sickness that comes along with illnesses as serious as the ones that afflict the children we are aiming to help on this evening.

My daughter, Rhiann, started growing her hair about 2 years ago so that she could donate it to this worthy cause and along the way, and in co-ordination with some good friends and family, decided that she could possibly inspire others to do what they could to help as well.

I spoke with (GQ Walker, GQ Da' MC) about Rhiann's idea to donate her hair, and after having watched his own Mother suffer and ultimately lose her battle with Cancer, GQ jumped at the chance to do something to make these kids lives a little bit easier. GQ suggested a fantastic group of people and a venue (Ocean 49) that he thought would be perfect for this event and together we created the fundraiser you are invited to today.

Isaacs became one of the world’s biggest reggae stars in the 1970s and 1980s with major hits like “Night Nurse” (hear it after the jump) and “Rumours,” spanning the transition from more traditional styles to synth-based dancehall.

“Yes, it’s true,” Isaacs’ manager, Copeland Forbes, writes in an email to the Music Mix. “Gregory passed away this morning in London at 4 A.M. He had a tumor which had spread to other areas of his body. He was 60 years old. I spoke with him last week and he said that I should read Psalm 41 and Psalm 91 for him. I had made arrangements to go back to London on Wednesday to see him as I hadn’t seen him since we went to London together to do the Big Chill Festival (his last show in his life), which had over 60,000 people in attendance. He was the only reggae act on the bill. May his soul rest in peace.”

(real name Thato Sikwane) is a South African disc jockey who became known first for his breakfast slot on radio station YFM (which he hosted for eight years) and later as the host of the Drive Time (16h00 - 19h00) on 5FM.

DJ Fresh has 13 house albums under his belt and has shared the DJ booth with a number of international artists, including "Little Louie" Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Armad Van Helden and Dominic Spreadlove and played in Southport in 2000 and at the legendary Pacha in Ibiza in 2002.

He was also part of a team of DJ's who performed at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

Apart from launching his company Big Dawg Productions, Fresh has established the DJ Fresh Annual Shcolarship programme, which awards tertiary scholarships to deserving students who cannot afford it.

A Canadian neo-soul singer with a wide-ranging style that encompasses hip-hop and spoken word as well as jazz and world music. Born in Vancouver, British Colombia, she is the daughter of a South African father and a Scottish mother. While growing up she traveled back and forth from Canada to South Africa, where she spent a lot of time in Cape Town. She later based herself in Toronto and embarked on a musical career. Ibrahim co-founded the label District Six Music and made her commercial recording debut with Sh?: Iqra in Orange (2006), a ten-track EP. A couple years later she returned with Eclectica (Episodes in Purple) (2008), an eight-track EP released in association with the Sony Music subsidiary Red Ink Music. Her song "Money" was nominated for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the JUNO Awards in 2009.

From May 28 to May 31, 2010, Canada's most influential players in club music and lifestyle will be throwing it down at Canada's finest venues including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 190 Princes Blvd, CNE Grounds, where the 2010 DJ Stylus DJ Awards will take place on Monday May 31st at 8PM. The annual awards show will draw a crowd of over 1,200 guests -- an event that has sold out since its inception.

The 2010 Stylus Spinfest will begin Friday, May 28th and continues through to Sunday, May 30th, bringing you much-anticipated events such as the Official Stylus Launch party, the second edition of the "Who's Got Next?" compilation series, and the National Stylus DJ Conference Tour: It Starts with the DJ 3.0. Everybody likes to eat. That doesn’t make us all chefs. There are a select few who are born with the gift of a musical ear, and more importantly the talent to share it with the world. This is the story of DJ XTC. From “connoisseur” to “guru”, Neal “XTC” McFarlane comes from the “old school” but can kick it new school and still graduate with honours. Educate yourselves.

His X•amples

Scarborough, ON seems to be the breeding ground for many a DJ talent. DJ XTC who also hails from this musically and culturally diverse borough of Toronto has his earliest influences rooted in the music of Percy Sledge, Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, and Kenny Rogers that used to transcend from his mother’s stereo (read as: old school ghetto blaster). He earned his gold stars as a popular house party DJ in west end parts of the city including Brampton, Malton and Mississauga where he eventually set up his tent.

His X•perience

In the 80’s, DJ XTC made his mark (prologue to X Marks the Spot) through regular deejaying gigs at Changes (Mississauga), Superstars (Mississauga), The World (Mississauga), NRG (Burlington), Barracuda (Toronto), and The Concert Hall (Toronto). Later on, the 90’s were defined by one of the longest running radio shows on 89.5 FM CIUT with “Project Bounce” which featured “Red Light Radio” – a segment that focused on Old School, Funk, R'n'B, Vintage and slow jams. From 1995 to 2000, XTC took a hiatus from club and party deejaying to focus on his family life; however he remained relevant on the airwaves through “Project Bounce”. His knowledge of music was not limited to just the turntables, XTC was also the owner of the popular all-ages Club 404 in Brampton where old school favourites like Maestro Fresh-Wes and Redhead Kingpin blessed the stage. Having affiliated himself with one of the most celebrated urban event promoters, XTC has had a hand in bringing several U.S. artists to Canada for your listening pleasure.

His X•cellence

DJ XTC as a true “guru” has not aspired to be hailed as a “mainstream” DJ. His gift to the universe has been through sharing his acquired knowledge as a teacher, mentor and partner to others, and to foster a genuine love and following of the music of our roots. Currently, DJ XTC (in co-ordination with Hyped Entertainment and United Force) produces a serial event called “X Marks The Spot” which is a night dedicated to celebrating the vintage sounds across all urban/Caribbean genres from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Keeping the spirit of a generation alive, he is taking us on a throwback journey every season with the “official” Club 404 (Brampton) Reunion parties. These parties are now so highly coveted, that you shall soon see them in a city near you. In addition, starting February 2010, join him at “First Fridays” where he will spin alongside a special guest DJ the first Friday of each month who also shares his love of kickin’ it Old School. The final treat is his return to radio with his online radio show “REWIND” on Globe-Radio.com every Sunday from 7 to 9 pm. As far as vices go, there sure are a lot to choose from. But from what I can tell, some XTC and a love of great music is a cocktail I cannot live without!

On Monday, December 7, 2009, Haydain Neale's friends and peers will join on stage to celebrate the life and music of one of Canada's most beloved artists. Haydain Neale's legendary voice had been missing from the Canadian music scene since a serious motor accident in the summer of 2007, but his strength and perseverance during his recovery was moving and inspiring. Over the past two years, with the unwavering love and support of his wife Michaela, daughter Yasmin and numerous others, Neale finished production on the album he started almost 3 years ago. While privately battling cancer, Haydain went back into the studio with his fellow jacksoul band mates to complete the record. On December 1, jacksoul will be releasing SOULmate, a collection of all new remarkable songs that tell of love, hope and endurance, set to his trademark unstoppable beats.

With past hits like "Can't Stop", and "Still Believe in Love, jacksoul has been internationally heralded as an incredible artist that delivers soul stirring and intoxicating music. Executive produced by Haydain and Michaela Neale, SOULmate is the fifth release from jacksoul, and is comprised of ten new tracks that showcase a powerful voice in R&B/Soul music, a potent mix of smooth vocals and tight beats, and showcases the simplicity of brilliant songwriting.

I have always been a fan of the classic love song,oldies ballads are favorite of mine. Even when we had our old radio show" Red-light Radio" on Project Bounce we used to end each funk-filled episode with a classic slow jam.It was a bit odd for a hip hop station. So was having an old school show end off a week of tunes that would make you break your neck.Being the hopeless romantic that I am I think I am going to bring back that tradition as best as I can. This track is not my favorite of ballads but it is one that tugs at your heart...sniff sniff

1. We are always late; we would have missed all 4 flights.

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F-- YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3

My 40th ...

Yes I finally claimed it as that birthday and not 20 x 2 that I had originally advertised.
It has been almost 6 months since I turned that age. I spent the day linking pics and going through all the fun things from that night, that I remember. I can honestly say I am neither better or worse, richer or poorer ,happier nor sadder. It just has been another number for me.I have to admit with all the friends that came out and helped put it together it would never have been the best birthday I ever had. Ok maybe a correction is needed, the experience made me richer indeed
